Thomas Cook Collapses
The 178 year old Travel firm ceased trading with immediate effect this morning after negotiations to raise the extra £200m needed failed leaving 150,000 holidaymakers in need of repatriation.
22,000 worldwide jobs, 9000 of which are in the uk, are now at permanent risk. One of its branches being in Northbrook Street in Newbury.
‘Operation Matterhorn” will now attempt to fly holidaymakers back to the UK as near to their original departure date as possible. 40 planes chartered by the Government and the Civil Aviation Authority are already in place to start returning passengers home.
