Victoria Park is one of the very best green spaces in the world

Newbury’s Victoria Park has been singled out as one of the very best public green spaces in the world.

Environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy, has given the park the “Green Flag award” which recognises the high quality of the Park. It is testament to its highest possible environmental standards, its excellent visitor facilities and the fact that it is beautifully maintained.

The award scheme operates in the UK and 14 other countries, including the USA, Portugal and New Zealand.

Commenting on Victoria Park’s success, Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said:

This year, more than ever, our parks and green spaces have been a lifeline and we know that millions of people have used them to relax, meet friends, exercise or simply escape for a short time.

It is testament to the incredible dedication and hard work of parks staff and volunteers that, despite the challenges that went along with large numbers of people visiting, Victoria Park has achieved the highest international standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.

Council leader, Martin Coulston, praised Grounds Maintenance Officer, James Heasman, Community Services Manager, David ingram and landscaping contractors, Continental Ltd for “a great deal of hard work”, which secured the award for the second year running.
