Mayor’s festive tea is a great success!

The Mayor of Newbury hosted a Festive Afternoon Tea on Thursday 16th December.

Members of the community over the age of 75 years old were invited to join the celebrations at St Nicolas Church Hall.

Around 45 guests arrived to be greeted by the Mayor & Mayoress of Newbury, Cllr Billy Drummond and Sharon Drummond. They were given a welcome drink of either port or sherry and enjoyed a festive afternoon tea accompanied by some festive music.

Following the tea, the Town Crier hosted a game of bingo and encouraged tables to take part in a Christmas quiz. Prizes were presented to the oldest gentleman and oldest lady present; in attendance was 105 year old Ruth Saunders MBE, and two gentlemen both aged 86 who all received a box of chocolates.

The Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Billy Drummond, said “Everyone has a wonderful afternoon, it was a great way to get in the festive spirit. I would like to thank all staff, volunteers, St Nicolas Church and our caterers, ‘Casual Dining By John’, for all their support and hard work to make sure the day went smoothly for our guests.”
