Runners enjoy sunshine and strong support at Thatcham 10K

Runners were out in force on Sunday morning for this year’s Thatcham 10K, with plenty turning out to take on the local route.

Now in its third year, the event has recently moved under the organisation of Run Forest Run, but it still kept the friendly, community feel that’s made it popular.

The race started and finished at Lower Way Playing Fields, taking runners out along the canal paths and around the lakes, with a mix of scenery along the way. It’s a course that suits all abilities, whether people are pushing for a time or just getting round.

Conditions couldn’t have worked out much better, with the weather turning out warm and sunny, making for a really good morning to run.

Before the main race got underway, younger runners had the chance to take part in shorter children’s races, helping build the atmosphere early on.

There was also a warm-up ahead of the start, with runners gathering on the field before setting off at 10am.

Out on the course, there was plenty of support, with volunteers marshalling throughout and cheering runners on as they passed, something that made a real difference over the full 10K distance.

The Mayor of Thatcham, Petra Pemberton, was there to start the race with the countdown and later presented prizes to the winners at the finish.

With another strong turnout and a great atmosphere from start to finish, the Thatcham 10K continues to establish itself as a regular fixture in the local running calendar.
