Kennet Radio set to launch on DAB digital radio after Newbury licence award

Kennet Radio listeners will soon be able to tune in on DAB digital radio, following today’s award of the small-scale DAB multiplex licence for Newbury to Kennet DAB Limited.

Kennet Radio, which broadcasts to Newbury, Thatcham and West Berkshire on 106.7 FM, is a participant in Kennet DAB Limited and is expected to be among the first stations on air when the new digital service launches.

What this means for listeners

For the first time, listeners across the area will be able to hear Kennet Radio on DAB digital radios at home, in the car and on portable digital radio sets, alongside our existing FM service on 106.7 FM and online streams.  The new multiplex covers Newbury, Thatcham, Hungerford and the surrounding part of West Berkshire.

There is no immediate change to your current listening: 106.7 FM and kennetradio.com remain our main broadcast routes for now.  We will publish more information about the digital launch closer to the time, including how to tune in your DAB radio when the service goes live.

Community broadcasting on digital

The new Newbury multiplex has reserved capacity for up to four community digital sound programme (C-DSP) services, ensuring volunteer-run stations like Kennet Radio have an affordable route onto digital radio.  This makes Kennet Radio one of a growing number of community radio stations across the UK now broadcasting on DAB.

The focus now moves to transmitter installation and bringing the network on air.
