Newbury’s Victoria Park parkrun returns with a fresh new layout
Victoria Park parkrun has officially returned to Newbury, with a refreshed course and a renewed focus on accessibility and community.
Speaking to Kennet Radio, event representative Fraser Harding explained that the reopening marks the first event of the year following a short break, and brings with it some notable changes. “It’s our first event after a layoff of a few months and we’ve come back with a new course,” he said.
The updated route now features a two-lap course instead of three, including a section through the football ground at Faraday Road. The changes offer something new for returning participants while keeping the event engaging for first-timers.

For those unfamiliar with parkrun, Fraser was keen to emphasise that it is about far more than running. “I would rather say it was a social phenomenon, which brings people of all ages and abilities together,” he explained. The weekly event welcomes everyone, from experienced runners to complete beginners, with walkers equally encouraged to take part.
The introduction of a central Newbury event also helps meet growing demand. With Greenham Common parkrun regularly attracting hundreds of participants, organisers wanted to create an additional option that was easier to access and offered a different experience. Victoria Park’s more compact setting allows participants to see more of each other during the event, reinforcing its community feel.

Like all parkruns, the Victoria Park event relies on volunteers to run smoothly. Those interested in getting involved can dedicate as little or as much time as they like, with a variety of roles available each week. Anyone wishing to help is encouraged to get in touch via victoriaparknewbury@parkrun.com.
The event takes place every Saturday morning at 9am in Victoria Park, with a first-timers briefing held at around 8:50am. Participants are advised to arrive early for their first visit to get familiar with the course and format.
Whatever your pace or experience, the message from organisers is clear: everyone is welcome.
