Golf at Donnington Grove as summer ends

As the warm months start to fade, August has proved to be another busy month. John Headland, seniors captain, reported mixed results in the men’s senior matches. It was a home win in the Shanklin & Sandown (Isle of Wight) fixture, to retain the Andy Skelley Sea Eagle Trophy, but home losses to Newbury & Crookham and West Berkshire to lose the Elfred Davis Cup. The recent 8 pair match at Wrag Barn, where a remarkable match produced a 4-4 draw, enjoyed some very fine points won and lost.

The seniors had their summer tour to High Post in Wiltshire followed by Salisbury & South Wilts and a combined score across both courses of 42 points for winning member, Steve Martin.

Club Men’s Captain, Kevin Bale, informed that the Club had a corporate day for Everywhen Insurance, insurance for councillors, which raised ÂŁ1,400 for the captains charity. The insurer immediately offered to double the contribution to ÂŁ2,800, a really generous offer that will boost the Charity fund to a record level for the year.

Ladies Captain, Juliette Culley reported a cup trophy celebrating a past captain and loved member was played in August. Twenty-one ladies attended and a varied format was used. The winners of the three ballots were Toni Hinson, Sue Foot and Ann Aston. The home match against Hennerton, on a course beginning to green up, was a win to Grove, 2-1.
