Captain’s Charity Day at Donnington Grove

As the end of a captains’ terms of office hoves into view, there is a final event in the calendar and a final push for funds for the captain’s charity of choice; this year at Donnington Grove, the charity New Life supporting a local charity for sick babies, supplying equipment to hospitals. Over 100 people attended the day, a four ball stapleford competition, with prizes for both points and nearest the pins. An auction was held after the match and BBQ, and the Club reports that nearly £20,000 has been raised for the charity over the year, which is a record sum for the Club. A final reckoning will be made very soon.

Fine weather greeted the players, who all teed off at 09:00 am with a 4 ball shotgun start. The overall team winner, with 119 points, was Emma Furlong, Ray Ford, Micky Cummings and Dave Picton, who pipped the second-placed team by just a single point.

Nearest the pin in 2 (on a par 4) Josh Wadham (Mens) and Kim Richardson (Ladies) was nearest the pin on a par 3. The longest drives for the ladies was Jan Torrence and, for the men, Kieran Hannah.

Donnington Grove welcomes its new captains next month.
