Freedom of Thatcham to be awarded to 67 Military Intelligence Company
Thatcham will celebrate one of its most meaningful civic traditions as the Freedom of the Town is formally granted to 67 Military Intelligence Company, based at Denison Barracks.
The ceremony will take place in the Town centre on Thursday 4 June at 1pm, marking a significant occasion for both the town and the unit.
Freedom of the Town is one of the oldest and most significant honours a community can bestow. This award recognises the strong connection between the town and 67 Military Intelligence Company, as well as the important role they play in local life, including their regular attendance as the permanent military contingent at Remembrance Sunday commemorations. Thatcham Town Council will confer upon 67 Military Intelligence Company “the right, honour and distinction of marching through the streets of the town on all ceremonial occasions with colours flying, bands playing, drums beating, and bayonets fixed”
The ceremony will take place on Thatcham Broadway, where troops will march onto the Broadway at 1pm for a formal inspection and ceremony.
Following the civic proceedings, 67 Military Intelligence Company will exercise their Freedom of Thatcham by marching through the Broadway, led by a military band. Residents are warmly invited to line the streets and show their support.
The Event will also be live streamed for those that are unable to make it into the Town.
The event promises to be a significant occasion for the community of Thatcham, bringing together residents, civic leaders, and military personnel in a shared celebration of service, honour, and local connection.
