Another Kennet Radio Work Experience Student

This week, John O’Gaunt School student James visited the Kennet Radio studios in Newbury for two work experience sessions, gaining valuable insight into the world of radio broadcasting and multimedia production.
During his time at the station, James joined David Clarke, presenter of The Clarke Breakfast Show, and under David’s guidance, James had the opportunity to step behind the microphone and present part of the programme himself. He also learned how the studio’s broadcast desk and multiple-screen systems are operated to manage live programming and facilitate interaction with Kennet Radio listeners via phone calls and text messages.
David Clarke said “It’s not every day you hand over the breakfast show to a work Experience student, but James took to it brilliantly! He was keen to learn, asked all the right questions, and was a real asset during his time with us.”
In a separate morning session, James visited Kev Dyson’s multimedia studio where some of the station’s multimedia content is created and prepared. Kev provided further advice and practical tips to James’ growing expertise to the intricacies of audio editing, helping him refine his own recordings using professional audio editing software. James also designed a promotional poster using graphic design software before combining the visual and audio elements into a short video using yet another professional app, and this was subsequently published online.
These work experience sessions provided James with a broad perspective to both live broadcasting and digital media production, giving him hands-on experience across a range of creative and technical skills.
