Another fab concert by the Hungerford Memory Singers

The Hungerford Memory Singers were back in St Lawrence’s to deliver their Summer Concert.  And what a smashing, joyous celebration of song it was!

The choir – the brainchild of organiser Olivia Simmonds, who launched it four years ago – aims to be a family, offering engagement and encouragement for those living with early onset dementia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinsons, through music and singing.  About half the choir are affected.

And music truly works magic!  A programme of favourites from shows and musicals – the trio of songs from Oliver was outstanding – and pop songs, including three from The Beatles and Bob Dylan’s Hallelujah plus their very own song composed by Olivia, featured solo parts from across the choir.  And they belted ‘em out!  Terrific stuff!

The choir, pianist and guitarist were expertly conducted by Carolyn Bartholomew, who enthusiastically encouraged singing participation from the very considerable audience.  It was fun.

The Hungerford Memory Singers will be back for a Christmas Concert.  Anyone who would like further information is invited to contact Olivia Simmonds by email – dementia.choir@gmail.com.
