Tough times at Thatcham Town
Redhill scored the only goal of the game as Thatcham Town’s worrying run of losses continued.
It was towards the end of an incredibly scrappy first-half that the visitors scored the winner, as Troy Walters picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and slammed a low shot into the bottom corner.
In amongst a number of stoppages, Junior Da Cruz picked up an ankle injury and had to be withdrawn, while Kye Williams missed 10 minutes after being sin-binned.
Nathan Smith made a smart save as the Lobsters bore down on goal in the opening minute, while the Kingfishers had a double penalty appeal turned down after Daniel Santos lost his footing when rounding the keeper, then a defender threw his body in the way of Callum Winchcombe’s follow-up drive.
The visitors pinned Thatcham back for long periods but Town withstood the pressure, albeit with goalkeeper Smith struggling after picking up a knock.
In the closing stages Kaser Chowdhary was brought on to add physicality to the forward line and saw two headers drop agonisingly wide. In a final chance his deflected shot from 12 yards brought a flying save from James Dillon as Redhill held on for the points.
