Thatcham Town Council recruiting Coronavirus volunteers

The Town Council is looking for ‘good neighbours’ to support the most vulnerable as the COVID-19 virus begins to cause local residents to self-isolate.

The Council has announced that it has begun to collect names of people who would be registered as volunteers.  The roles would include visiting the most vulnerable and lonely to ensure that they’re OK and have enough supplies of food and essential medication.  There will also be some volunteer administrative roles to help co-ordinate the effort to bring valuable support to those in need.

Thatcham Town Mayor, Cllr Mike Cole said: “We have already had a number of people volunteering.  We looked at the situation regarding residents who will be required to self-isolate.”

The Council believes that there are many elderly and vulnerable people who don’t have family and friends locally to support them if they need to self-isolate.

Cllr Cole added: “Our challenge is to identify people who don’t have social networks and provide assistance for them.  Our plans are at a very early stage.”

If you live in the Thatcham area and could spare the time to help during the Coronavirus crisis, you can contact Thatcham Town Council on 01635 863592 or email [email protected] with your name, address, phone number and details of any useful skills that you have.
