Police appeal for witnesses following sudden death in Thatcham

Thames Valley Police is appealing for the public’s help in relation to a sudden death in Thatcham.

At around 1pm on Wednesday 26 April, officers attended Dobson Lakes, Lower Way, Thatcham after reports of a body being in the water.

Officers attended the body of a man in his sixties was recovered.

The man has now been, formally identified as Stephen Williams, aged 67, from Thatcham.

Mr Williams’ next of kin have been informed.

Detective Constable Cerys Sumpter, based at Newbury police station, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of Mr Williams.

“We do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances around Mr Williams’ death.

“However we are conducting enquiries on behalf of the coroner, as such we are asking for the public’s help in tracing Mr Williams’ last movements.

“It is believed that Mr Williams’ went fishing on Tuesday 25 April at around 4.30pm, as confirmed by another angler, however there are no further sightings of him between 4.30pm on the 25th April, and when his body was found on the 26th April at around 1pm.

“As such if any other anglers or walkers may have seen or spoke to him between these times, we would ask them to please get in touch.

“Mr Williams was wearing  a cream baseball cap, green hoody, black cargo bottoms, black warehouse boots. He drove a white vehicle.
