Police appeal following attempted robbery in Thatcham

Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an attempted robbery at a betting shop in Thatcham.

The incident took place at around 6pm on Wednesday 23rd January at Ladbrokes on Bath Road.

The offender entered the premises, carrying a knife and a black holdall bag and went behind the counter and took cash from one of the tills.

The offender dropped the cash and a knife (pictured) after a member of the public tripped him. He ran away heading towards Green Lane and Lower Way. Police recovered the knife at the scene.

The offender, described as a male, around 5ft 10ins tall and of average build was wearing dark clothing and a dark face covering.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Pam Finch from Newbury CID said: “The knife recovered at the scene is very distinctive. If you recognise it, or have information that could help us to identify the owner, please contact Thames Valley Police.”
