New Falkland Cricket pavilion nears completion – volunteers sought by Club

Falkland Cricket Club in Wash Common is seeking more volunteers, as its new pavilion nears completion.

John Bolan, Chair of Trustees, writes:

Volunteers are the lifeblood of this Club, and we have been so lucky over the years with currently over 60 individuals actively volunteering, for which the Trustees are very grateful. Scorers and umpires are a challenge for every cricket club, whether that be for junior or adult matches. Our fixtures list is always packed full, so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. If you would be interested in taking a scoring or umpiring course and helping out, the introductory courses are suitable for anyone men and women, boys and girls, aged 13 and 60+.  Most of the courses are online and can be done in your own time. They are good fun, and we need your help.

The new pavilion will provide a new home for Falkland Cricket Club, The Bowlers Arms and community groups from Wash Common.  Fund-raising of £1.85 million to build the new Pavilion, Bowlers Arms and community facilities was undertaken by the Trustees, with considerable support from Greenham Common Trust, the England and Wales Cricket Board, many other charitable trusts and donors, and with the help of Newbury Building Society.

Like many other organisations, however, they have been hit by COVID, with limited matches this year, and the cancellation of its Bonfire Night event, which is their major annual fund-raiser.
