Memorial for well-known local businessman Wilbur Craik

Friends and family are invited to join James and Phil Craik to celebrate the life of their father Wilbur on 10th August 2021 at the West Berkshire Brewery from 5pm til late, for an evening of Music, Memories, Beer and a good time!

Wilbur’s son James has told Kennet Radio that his father recently passed away after a battle with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).

Wilbur was an extremely well-known character in Newbury over many years. Owning the first Jeans clothes  boutique which was opposite the Tap and Spire back in the late 70’s called Wilburs, he also owned the Clocktower Pub, and at the same time created and owned Silks nightclub in Thatcham in the early 80’s.

Prior to this he owned Craik Haulage in Hungerford, and before then he was a road manager for a successful band, Sammy.

Most recently locals will know Wilbur from when he bought a second hand record store – Whirlygog – with James in the late 90’s, selling second hand vinyl CDs, tapes and hoodies.

James remembers that he and his dad were chatting to a DJ from the club above who worked for a DJ company Gemini DJ. The DJ suggested that they should try and sell some DJ equipment – and that was the start of what became DJkit, now the largest online DJ Equipment company in the UK, run by James and his brother, Philip.

DJkit was recently featured on the Pro Mobile website.
