Man Jailed for Drug Dealing in Newbury

A man has been jailed for supplying drugs in Newbury, following a Thames Valley Police investigation.

Thomas Chalk, aged 27, of Cromwell Road, Newbury, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment at Reading Crown Court on 16 February after he pleaded guilty to one count of being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug, namely cannabis.

This follows the arrest of Chalk at his home on 22 October, 2017, on suspicion that he was involved in the supply of skunk cannabis. A small amount of cannabis was recovered from the address.

Two weeks before this, two boys aged 16 had been arrested and evidence obtained from that investigation led police to Chalk.

The evidence showed Chalk was a mid-level dealer supplying cannabis to boys who then dealt drugs on the streets.

Chalk was charged on 15 December, 2017.

Investigating officer PC Christopher Eaton said:

“Chalk was profiting financially by exploiting local juveniles supplying them for mid-market deals of cannabis.

“I hope that this sentence acts as a deterrent to others and sends the message that if you deal drugs, you risk going to prison.

“Thames Valley Police is committed to protecting the community it serves.”
