Major road closure coming up in Newbury
Kings Road and Boundary Road, Newbury, will be closed from 8th August to 23rd September 2022. Kings Road will be closed between its junctions with Boundary Road and Hectors Way. Boundary Road will be closed between its junctions with Railway Road and Mill Lane/Bone Lane. The crossroads where Kings Road meets Boundary Road will be closed to traffic in all directions. The One-Way restrictions on Kings Road and Boundary Road will be suspended in order to maintain access for residents. Residents of Kings Road will therefore gain access at the traffic signals near Sainsbury’s.
Parking will also be restricted on these roads. The extent of the parking restriction will depend on the progress and location of work at the time and will be indicated by appropriate signs.
The alternative route for Kings Road is via Bone Lane/Hambridge Road, the A4 Bath Road, the A339 and the western end of Kings Road.
The alternative route for the southern section of Boundary Road is via Bone Lane/Hambridge Road, the A4 Bath Road, the A339, Greenham Road and Stroud Green.
There is no alternative route for the northern section of Boundary Road. Access will be maintained for residents via Mill Lane or Bone Lane as usual, but through traffic will not be allowed.
The purpose of this closure is to carry out highway and drainage improvements associated with the development of the adjacent former Sterling Cables site.
Residential access will be maintained throughout and the diversion will be signed on site. Access to businesses on Hambridge Road will maintained, but traffic will need to exit these premises to the east and use the A4.
Please Note: Blue light access will not be possible due to the depth and location of excavation in the Hambridge Road/Boundary Road/Kings Road crossroads.
The work is being carried out by Cognition Land and Water Ltd (contact Alex Simion – 07481808390) and the temporary traffic management is being provided by AMR Traffic Management (contact Nathan Lovell – 07794931507).
