Major railway closure February 18th – March 2nd for engineering works

Great Western Railway have announced:

“In early 2023, Network Rail will be carrying out a programme of rail upgrades between Taunton and Reading.

The first phase of these works will be in the Newbury area from Saturday 18 February to Thursday 2 March 2023.

This work is essential to protect the ongoing safety of the route and involves relaying life-expired track, replacing lineside equipment and renewing structures.”

A letter to residents says “We’ll be replacing the rails, sleepers and stones which support the track”.

The renewal work will be along two miles of between Bone Mill Lane railway bridge in Enborne, west of Newbury railway station, to Widmeads footpath crossing, to the east of Newbury Racecourse station.

Work will be done round the clock and there will be a bus replacement. As always, please check with your train operator before you travel.
