Large scale works at Newbury railway station
Paul Walter’s photo above shows the large scale of works currently being carried out at Newbury Railway station. It was taken at 20:17 last night, Tuesday 21st February.
There have also been many sightings of workers in orange hi-vis suits around the railway in West Berkshire.
Great Western Railway say the current local works and service disruption will continue until Thursday March 2nd. Their website has a full description of the works and says:
Rail improvement work will affect trains between Reading and Westbury.
Trains between London Paddington and Devon/Cornwall will continue to run using an alternative route via Swindon.
Buses are planned to replace trains between:

Theale and Bedwyn (Weekdays until 20:00 and all day on Saturdays)

Reading and Bedwyn (Weekdays after 20:00 and all day on Sundays)

Pewsey and Swindon (all dates)

Chippenham and Westbury (Monday to Fridays – off-peak services only)
