Kings Division 1 team travelled to east London on Sunday to play London Titans 2, a very experienced team so this was going to be a tough test for the young Kings team.
Reece Barker won the tip but it was Titans who opened the scoring, Kings responded quickly with 3 baskets from Reece Barker. With Kings putting on a full-court press defensively Titans started to struggle to get out of their own half with R.Barker and George Gray getting points – Kings ended the quarter up 12-8.
The second quarter went in a similar fashion with some excellent defence from Kings and at the other end Liam Barker got his first points of the game and R.Barker managed to score another 11 points in the 2nd. PJ O’Donovan came on for his first appearance this season after off-season surgery and fitted straight back in with the team. Kings held the lead at halftime 24-14.
Kings went into the 3rd knowing they had to keep working hard and taking their chances and that they did just that with Adele Atkin getting her first points with a tremendous finish under pressure, Tom Tobin and the Barker Brothers also added to their tally but with Kings being so physical in defence found a couple of players in foul trouble so Chris Nash and O’Donovan came on and did a great job to finish the 3rd leading 38-21.
Kings carried on extending their lead with baskets from Gray, Tobin, and R.Barker who ended the game with 30 points.
Kings picking up a huge win 52-32.
Tom Tobin said “Our defence was amazing today and that was what won us the game – Less than 60 points conceded in 2 games, says a lot about our defence “
