Goalless at Hungerford

Neither side could find the breakthrough in a tightly contested affair that saw few clear chances and ended goalless. Manager Danny Robinson handed Keegan Messenger his full debut, stepping in for the suspended George Smith. Hungerford were also without Harry Williams (injury) and Zach Kotwica (suspension).

The game marked Hungerford stalwart Louis McGrory’s 150th appearance for the Crusaders but it will be a game that will not live long in the popular midfielders memory.

Hungerford had a strong penalty appeal when Joe Shepherd’s cross struck David Mantle’s hand but the referee waved play on in the opening ten minutes.

On the half hour mark  Louis McGrory’s cross was met by Conor McDonagh, whose header went just wide. Weymouth responded with a similar effort from Euan Pollock but that didnt trouble Luke Cairney.

Brad Hooper came very close early in the second half, flashing a shot just wide of Ben Clark’s post, a chance that most of the crowd thought was in. Midway through the second half Ty Duffus, a constant aerial threat, headed narrowly wide from another dangerous McGrory delivery.

With ten minutes to go Weymouth’s Brandon Goodship broke away, but Matt Berry-Hargreaves made a crucial last-ditch tackle to deny a shot on goal.

The last chance fell to Fabio Lopes who had an effort blocked by Kieron Douglas, summing up a game of half-chances.

Danny Robinson will take positives from a solid defensive display and the debut of Keegan Messenger but will be hoping for more attacking spark in the next outing. Come on the Hungerford!
