Forget me nots appear across Thatcham for Dementia Action Week
If you’ve been through Thatcham town centre this week and noticed flashes of blue everywhere, you’re not imagining it.
As part of Dementia Action Week, the town has been decorated with handmade blue pieces, from crocheted forget me not flowers to larger knitted displays placed on benches and along railings and pathways.
Walking through the centre, you start to notice them more and more. One of the benches has been covered in a blanket made up of small blue flowers, and along the railings nearby, individual crocheted forget-me-nots have been lined up all the way along. There are also signs on lampposts with information about dementia support and advice.

The forget-me-not flower is widely recognised as a symbol of dementia awareness, and the displays have been created by members of the local community. Many have been made in memory of loved ones, or to show support for people living with dementia and those caring for them.
According to Thatcham Town Council, the aim of the week is to raise awareness, encourage understanding, and highlight the support available locally. There are also events taking place, including opportunities for people to access advice and connect with others.
