Local farmers drive their tractors down Northbrook Street
Our photo above shows the first of several dozen tractors making their way down Newbury’s main street on Saturday just after 6 pm, surprising early evening pedestrians.
The remarkable display, including bright lights and tuneful loud horns, capped a day of protest by local farmers.
Throughout Saturday, over 120 tractors were amassed in the showground of Newbury racecourse.
It was all in protest at the government’s recent plan to introduce a 20 per cent inheritance tax on farm assets valued at £1 million or more from April 2026.
