Captains Charity Day at Donnington Grove
In sweltering heat, the annual team golf Captains Charity Day went ahead at Donnington Grove. The event is held once a year and is the principal fund raising event for the named charity, with a golf match and an auction of donated prizes.Â
The match is played as a team of four with Stableford points (awarded based on the number of strokes taken on each hole in relation to par, rather than the total strokes), so highest score wins. But, if there are two with the same score, then they ‘count back’ to see who had the better points on a hole by hole basis, and the first with the higher score wins.
Winners were a guest team, of S.Hoult, D.Bowley, M.Lane, and D.Mildhall with a remarkable 95 points, but only after count back, with second placed team missing first place by one point, despite quite remarkably logging 13 birdies and an eagle.
The day raised £5500 for the charity New Life Special Care Babies. The event contributes
towards the year of fund raising for New Life, which is currently standing at £10,500.
