Busy times at Donnington Grove Golf Club
The Donnington Grove Golf Club has recently enjoyed its Club Championships, a day superbly supported by members who ball spot, marshall and announce players off the first tee. And, despite the very hot conditions, some superb golf was played. So, our Men’s champion for 2026 is Nick Hills, Ladies champion is Grace Canning, Men’s net champion is Michael Margetts and Ladies net champion is Jan King.
The Club also reports a busy Ladies golf calendar, with the anniversary Foursomes played on the 13th June and the Captains Rosebowl played on the 28th. The Donnington Grove Ladies hosted East Berks Academia Matchplay Knockout on the 22nd June, with DG Ladies being duly knocked out!
Meanwhile, the DG Senior Men’s team play their annual Dave Thomas Loving Cup at Grove. The competition originates from 2008; Dave Thomas being the original course architect for both Grove and Bowood House in Wiltshire. Grove travelled to Bowood last month, losing 4.5 to 1.5, making the home match a mountain to climb. However, Grove came out 5 to 1 winners at home, making a combined 6.5:5.5 win! A remarkable achievement, rather under-scored by the Bowood captain omitting to bring the cup with him, assuming a loss would be completely out of the question. Well done Donnington Grove!
