Brian Quinn talks to the candidates for Election 2024

Brian Quinn of Penny Post – who appears most weeks on Friday Drivetime with Jeremy and Kate – has interviewed all the candidates in the Newbury and the Reading West and Mid Berkshire constituencies.

They were all asked the same 15 questions by email and their answers set alongside each other.

You can therefore see at a glance what each of them had to say on a range of issues including disinformation, pandemic preparedness, climate change, the water companies, the main problem/s the constituency faces and the most difficult political question they’ve been asked.

Also covered are the very important matters of their Desert Island Discs choices of music, book and luxury item would be and – not something Lauren Laverne asks – film. In the Newbury constituency, for instance, these were the chosen pieces of music: but can you guess who opted for which?

  • Stand by Me by Ben E King.
  • Painkiller by Turin Brakes.
  • Green Onions by Booker T and the MGs.
  • Tangerine by Led Zeppelin.
  • My Way by Frank Sinatra.
  • Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis.
  • Anything by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
