Another Masterpiece Production at The Watermill – Piaf

When you visit the Watermill, it is such a delight to enter the intimate atmosphere there. The production of Piaf was superb from start to finish, from the moment the Edith enters from behind the audience, the show is a dynamic, ever-changing scene, with clever lighting and seamless transitions from scene to scene.  What also becomes apparent is how talented the whole cast is, all performing more than one character, and most of them multi-instrumentalists.

The lead role of Edith is delivered convincingly throughout by Audrey Brisson, with mannerisms, voice, humour all exactly as you expect, and she absolutely nailed the singing throughout, she is a powerhouse of a singer.

Supporting her, all the cast gave great performances, and there were too many stand-out moments to mention them all here, but a few are the amazing Signe Larsson with characterisation of Marlene Dietrich, and her duet with Piaf in Le Vie En Rose, I didn’t see that coming and it was great. The rendition of Sorrento in the second half was spine tingling and a showstopper moment. And of course the final song Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien was a superb way to close the show.

If you have not been to see Piaf, you should, otherwise it will be your own regret. Set in the small theatre, where you are so close to the performers, it makes the performance even more intense. An amazing evening out!
