Fifty thousand pounds has been pledged to help Ukrainian refugees in West Berkshire.
The council and Greenham Trust will match fund £25k each.
“We should be united in its condemnation and relentless of our support of Ukraine. We are seeing the unimaginable,” said council leader Lynne Doherty (Con, Speen).
The Ukraine support hub is being set up in West Berkshire.
“We encourage people that wish to offer financial support to offer it to the British Red Cross and Disasters Emergency Committee.
“We will welcome refugees. The council will be central in helping families settle in to new homes, and that the homes are fit for purpose. I am sure we will all welcome this active role from the council,” she added.
“West Berkshire Council stands with the people of Ukraine and expresses its unwavering commitment to democracy, multilevel governance and human rights.”
Last Wednesday’s full council meeting heard that two Ukrainian children who have recently fled the conflict are now being educated in the district’s schools.
