Two eventful matches for Thames Valley Kings
Thames Valley Kings, Thatcham-based wheelchair basketball team, were part of an action-packed doubleheader on Saturday, with two eventful matches.
In a Premier Division match against Tees Valley Mohawks, a high-octane game ensued, with Mohawks’ top division experience helping them to take and maintain the lead through the game. The Mohawks’ David Ion led the scoring with 22 points and Liam Barker was the top scorer for the Thames Valley Kings with 13 points.
During the fourth quarter, one player suffered a fall from his wheelchair. Due to the nature of the injury, it was agreed by both teams to end the game early, with 8:48 minutes remaining. The final score was 31-59 to the Mohawks.
The Kings’ Second Team were also in action, facing the Woking Blackhawks in Division 2 South. The Blackhawks took an early 13 point lead in the first quarter, before a near-three-quarter comeback by the Kings saw the game level with just four minutes to play. In an exciting finish, the final win was to the Blackhawks who edged the win by just 3 points, 46-49.
