Train services at a standstill in West Berkshire
Rail services across West Berkshire are at a standstill today (Tuesday 21st June) due to the national rail strike – there are no services running through Thatcham, Newbury, Kintbury or Hungerford. As you can see in the picture above, Newbury Railway Station was deserted at 10am this morning.
The situation will be the same on Thursday 23rd June and Saturday 25th June with significant disruption expected on each day following the official strike days. Rail services in between the three strike days will start at 7am at the earliest and it is advisable to check timetables and changes before you travel.
The strike will significantly impact anyone wishing to travel by train from any of our local stations through to Reading and onto London Paddington.
You can find out more about the strike and revised timetables at www.gwr.com/strike, and stay tuned to Kennet Radio on 106.7 for regular traffic and travel updates as roads are expected to be busier than usual due to the strike action.
