Tom’s big bike ride
Tom Dunlop (19) from Lambourn is cycling over 2,600 miles visiting all 60 Great British racecourses during July and August – raising money for the Injured Jockeys Fund and Diverse Abilities.
Inspired by both his father Harry and his grandfather, Champion trainer John Dunlop, who between them raised masses of monies for various racing charities and mental health support, Tom wanted to do something significant to raise both awareness and monies for these two charities. The IJF supports not only jockeys when injured but also their family with both pastoral and financial support. Diverse Abilities provides safe places for disabled people to learn new skill or just hang out with their families not being judged for who they are. This is close to Tom’s heart as his godmother’s son Ollie (23) has Angelman’s Syndrome and regular attends The Beehive hub.
His target is £60,000 – £1,000 for each racecourse he cycles to. He is nearly ¾ of the way through it just another 12 racecourses to reach concluding at Newbury races on Thursday 28 August.
