Roaring Success For Newbury’s Community Clean
Newbury residents joined Newbury Town Councillors and Officers for our Annual Community Clean Litter Pick on Saturday 23 March. The Clean-up took place at 5 locations: the Riverside Community Centre, Northcroft, City Playground, Falkland Memorial and the footpath next to McDonalds at the Retail Park.
It was an amazing turnout with an incredible result filling 70 rubbish bags with discarded waste or recycling items. Some of our open spaces were cleared so that residents and visitors can enjoy the environment available to its full advantage.
The Town Council would like to thank everyone who joined in, including McDonalds in Northbrook Street who supplied litter picks and disposed of the litter collected on the day. We are grateful to the volunteers – the real civic heroes – who donned gloves and wielded litter pickers, and worked very hard to collect the cans, bottles, sweet wrappers (and other, more surprising, items) that some thoughtless people left behind. Residents of all age groups joined in, and everyone enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and the opportunity to improve the environment in our town. It is hoped that the litter-pick will show others that we care about the future of our local environment and that we are not prepared to live, work and play in an area that is blighted by rubbish.
