Online consultation launches ahead of new quarry plans

Grundon Sand & Gravel has launched an online public consultation into its proposed plans for a new quarry on land close to Chieveley Motorway Services. The move comes ahead of a planning application the company expects to submit to West Berkshire Council later this summer/autumn.

Over approximately a 10-year period, it wants to extract c500,000 tonnes of soft building sand from the 29-acre site, which is next to the now restored Old Kiln Quarry.

Access to the new site, which is allocated for mineral extraction in the West Berkshire Minerals and Waste Local Plan (MWLP), will see the upgrading an existing field access from Chalky Lane allowing vehicles access straight onto the A34 and M4.

The online consultation, which runs from 7-28 July, can be found at www.chieveleyquarry.co.uk. It explains the background to the proposals, the need for the mineral, the necessary operational and environmental controls and how Grundon Sand & Gravel would work and restore the site.
