Newbury wins contest to have its own Monopoly game
Newbury has won a 20-way UK MONOPOLY ‘beauty contest’ to land its’ very own official board game, the MONOPOLY: Newbury Edition.
We’ve come out top in a twenty-strong competition of high-profile UK market towns to secure our own MONOPOLY board beating – amongst others – Dorchester, Stow-on-the-Wold, Ludlow and Hexham.
Newbury’s famous racecourse and the spectacular Highclere Castle – setting for Downton Abbey – are expected to be tipped to land on prominent MONOPOLY squares. But the public will get to decide and shape the board, with a consultation period lasting two weeks, which will get underway immediately upon today’s announcement.
It’s a major coup for the West Berkshire town – as the company producing this new edition of the world’s most popular board game have recently made official MONOPOLY games for Doha, Brooklyn, Phuket and Naples.
