Newbury in Bloom is back!

Entry and registration is now open for this years Newbury in Bloom campaign. It’s aim is to improve the appearance of our town and environment and make Newbury a greener, cleaner and more pleasant place to live.

Community groups, schools and all members of the community are encouraged to take part to help make Newbury ‘bloom’ during the summer months.

This years campaign features nine categories and includes two extra categories: ‘Canal Boat Floral Display’ and ‘Best Street’ so how about getting together with your neighbours to make your street the most eye catching in Newbury!

Categories include:

  • School Garden
  • Place of Worship Garden
  • Public House/Restaurant/Small Business
  • Allotment
  • Almshouses
  • Community Projects
  • Public Buildings
  • Street
  • Canal Boat Floral Display

If you would like to enter and have a go the Newbury in Bloom entry forms are available from the Town Hall in the Market Place or you can apply online on Newbury Town Council’s website  https://newbury.gov.uk/newbury-in-bloom.php

Newbury will be entering the Royal Horticultural Society’s national “Britain in Bloom” competition this year and as the Newbury in Bloom campaign has been such a success in the past the Council have high hopes for its first entry for a number of years.

As in previous years the Town Council will be putting up over 100 hanging baskets throughout the town and at Shaw and Newtown Road Cemeteries. Beautiful floral displays will be planted at recreation grounds and open spaces, and Victoria Park, the ‘jewel in the crown’ will be alive with flower beds, roses, flowers and shrubs which have been planted on ‘community planting days’ over  the autumn and winter.

Closing date for entries is 23 June 2019 and the judging for the competition will take place week commencing 1 July 2019.
