Laura Farris becomes a Minister
Newbury’s MP, Laura Farris has a new government appointment, following PM Rishi Sunak’s recent ‘shake up’. She joins both the Home Office and the Ministry of Justice, as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State.
King Charles approved the appointment on 13th November, along with a number of other roles including a return to the front benches for ex-PM David Cameron.
Speaking about the promotion, Laura said via X (formerly Twitter):
Tackling the scourge of violence against women has long been a priority for me. I’ve campaigned for new laws from the backbenches & now it’s an honour to support the Government’s urgent work in this area as a Minister, working with brilliant teams at the MoJ and Home Office. – LAURA FARRIS
In her new role, she will be entitled to a ministerial salary of £22,375 in addition to her income as Member of Parliament for Newbury.
Former MP for Newbury, Lord Benyon congratulated her by saying:
I’m very glad to see [Laura Farris] has been made a minister. She has real talent and is one to watch. – RICHARD BENYON
