Good win for Thatcham Town away
Thatcham made a positive start to 2026 as Curtis Angell scored twice at Krooner Park to take a win from Camberley Town 0 – 2 in their favour.
After postponements on the first two Saturdays of the new year, this result sees the Kingfishers leap above Camberley in the league table to relieve some relegation pressure.
Angell, playing in a more advanced role on the left side of midfield, was in the right place at the right time to open the scoreline on 12 minutes. Callum Willmoth lofted a high ball into the box which the Camberley keeper spilled under pressure, and after Charlie Knight saw his shot blocked, it rolled to Angell who fired home from six yards out.
It wasn’t until 83 minutes that the game was made safe, as substitute Archie Goode linked up with Tyrese Georcelin and the full-back centred for Angell, who netted from the centre of goal.
In the first-half Thatcham were shooting downhill, and had the better of what was largely a midfield battle. Following Angell’s opener, Dan Smith glanced a header wide after Andy Matthews nodded Willmoth’s corner back across goal, while Kye Williams had a shot from the edge of the area saved.
Despite kicking uphill in the second half, the pattern of play was repeated, as Luke Polding weaved into the area and shot narrowly wide, and the long throws of Angell and Georcelin continued to cause problems.
Between the posts, Maciej Wiezcorek will likely not have a quieter afternoon all season but Town almost conceded on the hour from Camberley’s main moment of the match. The hosts broke at speed as Archie Mills found Shane Qoloni down the left, and the Camberley dangerman cut inside and blasted a 20 yarder against the underside of the bar. However, Qoloni soon became the villain by picking up two quick yellow cards for fouls on Goode and Polding to reduce the hosts to ten men.
Angell’s second effectively sealed the game, with Williams and Willmoth going close to extending the Kingfishers’ lead in the closing stages.
On Tuesday, Cam Philbey’s side travel to Redhill for a rearranged league fixture, then host Fleet Town at the Mettal Stadium on Saturday.
