CCTV appeal following a fraud incident in Newbury

Thames Valley Police is releasing the image above of an individual officers would like to speak to following an incident of fraud in Newbury.

The incident occurred on Wednesday 9 October at approximately 12pm on Old Bath Road. The victim was called by the offender who was impersonating a police officer. The offender asked the victim to withdraw a large quantity of cash from the bank, to help with a police investigation. The offender then arranged for this money to be collected by a courier at approximately 1.50pm, which is when the money was handed over by the victim to the offender.   

Investigating staff officer Sarah Bradshaw, said: “I am appealing to anyone who recognises the person in the picture as they may have vital information to assist us with our enquiries.

“Additionally we ask anyone with mobile phone, CCTV or dash-cam footage to get in touch with the force in case it has captured something which may assist this investigation

“If you have any information relating to this incident, please call 101 or report it online, quoting 43240487441.

“Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via its website.

“The Police or bank would never ask you to withdraw cash and hand to a courier or the Police. If you receive any calls like this we urge you to stay vigilant, and if you do feel as though anything is suspicious please report this to us. For more information on fraud please visit our website
