Thames Valley Kings make debut in new UKWB league.

The first-ever round of UKWB League was a real showcase of friendly competitive competition! With a huge clash occurring when Kings faced High Rollers and it was the Essex team who went home with the win 43-28.

High Rollers stormed into an early lead and kept the pressure up on Kings for the whole of the first quarter with some excellent basketball being played, Denise Drammis getting all of Kings points as High Rollers led 14-4 at the end of the first.  Kings fought back in the 2nd quarter and the quarter was evenly matched with both teams finding the basket  but it was High Rollers who took the fourteen point lead at the half time break, 24-10.

In the second half, High Rollers increased their lead with kings finding the basket through the father-son duo of Pat and Conal O’Donovan and Yassine Ibesaine as the 3rd quarter ended 36- 18. The final quarter was another evenly matched one, with Chris Nash and Drammis finding the baskets for Kings.

After the game, Drammis stated ” We all played well together.  As it is a development league we have the opportunity to play all the players so those who don’t get as much court time get the chance to play more in a game situation, which I thought worked really well.”

Founded in 2019,  by Ray McBride and ex-GB Paralympian, Lee Fawcett with the help of the title sponsor RGK Wheelchairs, the UKWB has been set up to give the opportunity to play sport competitively at the lowest cost to them and their clubs.
