Kings pick up their first win of 2017/18 Season against West Coast Warriors

Kings pick up their first win of the season this past Saturday in British Wheelchair Basketball National League Division 3 South West against a gutsy West Coast Warriors team 49-30.

Starting strong and winning tip-off Reece Barker was straight to the basket scoring the opening 2 points for Kings.

A solid performance continued from the team who lead from the first quarter with a strong scoring displays from Reece Barker and his brother, Liam who was making his Adult League debut for the club alongside great defensive plays from Wayne Burton and Vickie Simmonds who locked out the Warriors defense, with Kings leading 14-10 at the end of the first quarter.

This continued with great shooting displays in the second quarter from Chris Nash and the Barker brothers with Reece and Vickie Simmonds also pressing on defense causing the Warriors offense to make mistakes – this allowed Kings to extend their lead to 28-20 at the half.

Kings continued to lead the charge in the 3rd, producing a high octane quarter as Kings lead the charge in offense and their defense stopping the Warriors from being able to reply.

Kings had further baskets from Joe Humphreys, Peter Rapley, Nash and the Barker brothers.

It brought the game at the end of the 3rd quarter to 45-28.

With the pressure off Kings going into the 4th quarter, it gave them the chance to bring on some emerging talent and to allow some key players to rest, Kings edging the final quarter 4 points to 2 bringing the game at the end to 49-30.

Club Captain Wayne Burton stated

“Fantastic to get our first win for the season, I was really pleased by the effort put in by all the players today. It just shows where we are going as a club and team – it’s ‘exciting times’.”
