We are familiar with how filmmakers portray banquets during the English Civil Wars – plenty of clashing goblets and everyone gnawing on a plump chicken or a haunch of venison, but was this how it was, and how did the food get to the table in the first place?

This talk by historian Dr Christopher Scott will explain how technology, trade and fashion influenced what we ate and drank in England during the 1600s and how we cooked and consumed it.  This will be a mixture of facts, stories, objects and recipes with several surprises and revelations about everyday life both at court and in ordinary homes.

Tickets £5 available from West Berkshire Museum and online.  All seating is unreserved.
