The Crowds loved Newbury Carnival 2017’s spectacular Parade and Fete!

Massive crowds flocked to Newbury on Sunday to enjoy the Newbury Carnival Parade and Carnival Fete.

Newbury Carnival was opened by Newbury Town Mayor, Mr David Fenn at the Carnival Fete at 12.00 midday, shortly followed by a fabulous performance by local Elvis Tribute Band – ‘Trouble’ with their ’68 Comeback Special’ that was enjoyed by an appreciative large crowd.

Darren Boyce from ‘Trouble’ said

“For me as a local lad it was a dream come true, not only to be in the parade but to be a headline act for the main stage. I thought it was a fantastic event for the community, well run, with something for everybody. We were honoured to be part of it.”

The main Parade started at 2.00 pm in Bartholomew Street, travelling through the centre of Town to join the Fete in Victoria Park. The crowds were treated to some spectacular entries including the impressive John the Giant, the Rampage International Mas Band, the Harley Davidson Drive Through and the Reading Scottish Pipe Band.

Carnival Project Manager Ruth Walker said,

“It was great to showcase some of the brilliant talent we have in Newbury, both in the vibrant parade and with all our brilliant performers at the main stage in Victoria Park. Huge thanks to them all. We had a fabulous day and the crowds really joined in and had fun too.”

The judges and the crowds were full of praise for the many local community floats who produced an amazing riot of colour and creativity from our schools, local businesses, youth groups, charities and other community groups.
